Muslims has arrived and lived in Boise Idaho for many years, as early as 1955. By 1982 there were regular Friday prayers in Boise, attended by around 20 people. Today, by the grace of Allah, almost 200 people attend Friday prayers at the Islamic Center. The number is multiplied during the payer for the two main holiday, the Eid, where more than 500 people attend the services.
Around 95% of Muslims in the greater Boise area are immigrants, and most of them came to the US as refugees. Various waves of immigrants from countries such as Afghanistan, Somalia, Bosnia, Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the former Soviet Union have made Boise their home in recent years. The Agency for New Americans and the International Rescue Committee estimate that another 2000 Muslim immigrants will arrive in the greater Boise area in the next few years. |
